LEGAL FLIGHT CONTROLLERS

Flight controllers must be capable of flashing the spec firmware and have 8bit ESCs rated no higher than 12a. Must be both Bluejay and Betaflight capable.

That’s a lot of long words but basically it means any flight controller, so long as the manufacturer isn’t using proprietary firmware.

The Betafpv Matrix 4in1 is currently recommended (will also require a vtx).

LEGAL MOTORS

Motors must be the Happymodel SE0802, Happymodel EX0802, or Aerial Outlaws UWL Lite.

UWL Lite motors are currently recommended due to the league having manufacturing control of them to ensure spec integrity.

LEGAL FRAMES

Legal frames include the Betafpv Meteor75, Meteor75 Air, Happymodel Mobula 7 V2, V3, and V4, NewBeeDrone Cockroach 75, and Fractal Engineering Fractal 75.

Modifying your frame for weight or speed purposes is prohibited, including (but not limited to) shaving the propeller guards or clipping struts.

The Happymodel Mobula7 V4 is currently recommended due to being fastest

LEGAL PROPELLERS

The only legal propeller is the Gemfan 1610 Biblades

LEGAL VIDEO

Analog and HDZero video systems are legal. DJI, Walksnail, and other video systems may be legal event depending, but are unlikely to be legal at official races.

Your VTX must be able to output 25mw and your camera must not do more than 60fps.

External VTX’s (not built into your FC) are recommended due to better reliability and performance.

The Caddx Ant Lite camera is recommended due to being the best balance of performance, reliability, durability, and price.

LEGAL LEDs

Builds must have LEDs to make the drone visible to spectators and other pilots in the air. Exact rules for legal configurations are on this website.

Aerial Outlaws COB strips are recommended due to ease of use, price, and style.

LEGAL CONFIGURATION

Drones must be build as an X4 tractor style configuration. This means a standard configuration.

You may not use more than 4 motors. They must be in an X style (two motors in front and two in back). Plus configurations are not legal.

Motors must be mounted from below as a tractor style. Pusher configurations are not legal.

RPM LIMITER FLASH

Before beginning, make sure you’ve prepped your drone/flight controller for flashing as you normally would. This may include backing up settings, going into bootloader, etc. Once you’re on the Firmware Flash page, you’re ready to begin.

  1. Click the toggle at the top left to turn on “expert mode”
  2. Click the toggle a the top left to “show release candidates”
  3. Make sure the next box says “development”
  4. Use the next box to select your betaflight target
  5. Use the final box to select the newest version of betaflight that says “Kaack” (Note: It is no longer 4.5.0 Kaack like the photo shows. Select the newest version of Kaack).
  6. If you are using addressable LEDs, be sure to add that under “other options” below. You’ll want the 64 LED option.

Once the firmware is installed and you’ve made any changes you want (such as loading your backup settings), plug a bettery in and get ready to fly. Before arming, yaw left and pitch forward at the same time to open the betaflight menu. From there, select the UDL preset for your event. Not every event will use the same preset so use the one for your event.
