UDL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

UDL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

MOTORS

Aerial Outlaws UWL Lite

802 19,000kv

These motors are branded from the early days of the spec, but they're still around! If you have other spec legal motors laying around, feel free to use those. If you're looking to specifically buy motors for the spec, these are what you want. Since UDL/Aerial Outlaws spec monitors and controls manufacturing of this motor, it is the only motor we can keep consistent and it therefore has the highest chance of maintaining legality long term.

PROPELLERS

Gemfan 1610 1mm

These ultra popular propellers are required for the spec, so there's no other options. Fortunately, there's a plethora of color options from Aerial Outlaws. Choose your color and the 1mm shaft size prop to fit your motors.

FLIGHT CONTROLLER

BetaFPV F411 1s 5a D8/PNP

This is the most reliable 1s flight controller on the market currently, and it's not even close. You'll want to use an external receiver and an external video transmitter so it's a bit of work, but you have plenty of weight to play with and there's no flight controller that comes close to this performance and reliability.

RECEIVER

BetaFPV ELRS Flat Antenna

You can run almost any receiver you'd want on this build as the FC has an open uart and sbus pad, but ELRS is recommended. Specifically, the BetaFPV Flat Antenna receiver as it's incredibly durable and reliable. You'll almost certainly never have this receiver fail.

VIDEO TRANSMITTER

TBS UNIFY PRO NANO 5G8

This VTX is cheaper and still incredibly reliable and a high performer. It takes a little more work to set up and doesn't have a pit mode but it does have an extra power and ground pad to make your build easier. If you're not in need of pit mode or doing team racing, this is the VTX I'd recommend

Happymodel OVX300

This is one of the most standard VTX's for micro drones and always a safe bet as it's full of features and tunable due to running OpenVTX. The recommended FC doesn't have extra 5v and Ground pads, and neither does this VTX. So you'll have to put 2 wires on 1 pad, which is kind of annoying.

FRAME

BetaFPV Meteor75

This frame has proven to be extremely durable and that's why it's the top recommended frame. It's also ever so slightly heavier than the Mobula7 V4 frame (though they are about the same if you do a full COB wrap), which is helpful for an analog build. You'll want to make sure that you're using folded cell batteries, though, as rolled cells won't fit this frame.

CAMERA

BetaFPV C03

This camera is the current champion for a balance of budget, performance, and ease of use. Easy recommendation.

Caddx Baby Ratel 2

This camera rivals HDZero on image quality. However, it's much heavier and mounting options are scarce. If you have a good mounting solution, give it a try but you won't be able to use the C03 Canopy. The extra weight isn't an issue if you go lighter on LEDs

Foxeer Toothless 2 Nano

Similar pros and cons to the Baby Ratel 2, just Foxeer branded.

CANOPY

BetaFPV C03 Canopy

This canopy comes with the C03 camera, no extra purchase necessary! It's very heavy and therefore perfect for this analog Igniter build. It's also extremely durable. The downside is that it maxes out at 30 degrees camera angle in its default configuration, but Aerial Outlaws has been working hard to make a 45 degree mount for this canopy. It's here now, and FREE. Just make sure to include an order note that you want it included with your order.

LEDs

COBs

This build is designed to be light enough that you can fully wrap your frame in a 2.7mm wide cob strip and still hit the minimum spec weight. Easy, cheap, and beautiful.

Addresable COBs

These are heavier but since this is a lightweight analog build, you definitely have some room to use addressable COB strips. These are more complicated and heavier, however, so you may opt to use the regular ELRS FC if you use these, instead of the PNP FC with an ELRS receiver.

Blackhorse LED PCB

You can add this to really any build. With a full COB wrap, you won't need these to be in spec but if you like the extra flair, they're very easy to use and weigh just about nothing.

BATTERY

1s Folded 450mah

You'll need a 1s 450mah for the spec, and a folded cell one to fit the Meteor75 frame. Luckily, these are by far the best performing ones on the market.

HDZERO BUILD #2

MOTORS

Aerial Outlaws UWL Lite

802 19,000kv

FLIGHT CONTROLLER

BetaFPV F411 1s 5a ELRS

You'll want all the lightest weight options to pull off this build as the camera and VTX are very heavy. Make sure that you protect this receiver (located at the front) though! Rotate the board 90 degrees when you build so that it's not sitting under your camera, or use a canopy that prevents the camera from hitting the FC in a hard crash.

CAMERA & VIDEO TRANSMITTER

HDZero Whoop Lite Nano V3 Bundle

This bundle provides superior image quality but it's about 1.5g heavier than the Lux HDZero build. So you'll have to shave some weight elsewhere to make that weight back up.

FRAME

BetaFPV Meteor75 Air

Since the video system on this build is so heavy, there's not much flexibility here. Gotta run the lightest frame, even though it is a bit more fragile.

CANOPY

No recommendations yet

I don't have much firsthand experience with this camera and don't yet have recommendations for a canopy on this build. To keep weight down, you'd ideally want to lookf or something under 0.5g.

LEDs

COBs

Since this build is heavier, you won't likely be able to do a full COB wrap. However, you'll want to put COBs on as much of the frame as you can, since this frame is more fragile and the COBs serve as reinforcement. You'll especially want some on the sides, reinforcing the backside of the front ducts. This camera is prone to get a bit blown out if your COBs are directly in front of it though, so it's safer to keep them more to the sides.

Blackhorse LED PCB

You can add this to really any build. Since you won't likely be doing a full COB wrap here, it could be helpful to use this PCB to be strategic and help get your drone in spec.

BATTERY

1s Folded 450mah

You'll need a 1s 450mah for the spec, and a folded cell one to fit the Meteor75 frame. Luckily, these are by far the best performing ones on the market.
